About

Our Story

A few days before Halloween of 1994, my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Needless to say, I did not stuff myself with candy that year as I had done so many years before.

I've had ups and downs along the path to today, but more good days than not. After 20+ years of T1D with little more than family support, I've grown passionate about encouraging fellow Type 1's and creating more awareness about our abilities rather than our disability.

We became TypeONEderful because there’s so much negativity around living with diabetes and little that’s positive. As a T1D myself, I’ve experienced this firsthand, being told all the time about the limitations and restrictions that I’d have in my life.

Our mission is empowering Type 1 diabetics and spreading awareness and support for this community. If it’s your goal to live a full and awesome life despite diabetes, you’ve come to the right place. Together we can all be TypeONEderful!

Giving Back

We believe in giving back, and we also believe in paying it forward. We created TypeONEderful to give back to the Type 1 Diabetic community that has helped and supported so many through their tough times. That's why, a portion of each and every purchase is donated to T1International.

T1International supports local communities by giving them the tools they need to stand up for their rights so that access to insulin and diabetes supplies becomes a reality for all. We are so grateful for the support of our customers that enables us to give back.

The Face Behind the Brand

I'm Shaw

I live in San Diego, California after spending most of my early years in Atlanta, Georgia. I go by "@Typeonederful_" and "@TypeONEderfulClothes" on social media, but Instagram is my platform of choice, cause at heart I'm a visual person. Here are a few things to know about me:

1.

My favorite low-carb snack is Sugar-Free Raspberry Jello.

2.

I work for Dexcom helping to design the next generation of CGM devices and the user experience that makes it simple to use and understand.

3.

I've got a serious sweet tooth. Sorbet is my go-to sweet treat, followed by chocolate. One of the awesome things I found in Japan was the huge variety of KitKat bars in flavors like Green Tea, Raspberry, and Sake.

4.

I'm an insulin pump user (Medtronic 5xx series) and a CGM user (Dexcom G6). I'm a bit of a techy, so any and all technology that I can use to manage my diabetes is a welcome addition to my toolkit. I've been using Loop since 2017 and it's revolutionized my control and dramatically reduced the effort.

5.

I'm an avid reader; my favorite genres are Science Fiction and action/adventure Manga/Manhua. When I'm not designing or at the gym, I'm probably reading one or the other.
